Delegation is a Skill - Learn


I. Why delegate?

In every company there is work to be done by you as the business owner who is the best use of your time. The best use of your time will result in producing the greatest results for the company as quickly as possible. When the time is not used in this way, the company will struggle or perhaps stalled. The delegation's goal is therefore to be assigned to someone else of those tasks that do not provide the maximum return on your time.

II. When Officer

If you are under time pressure to do a little 'time to analyze all the things you are doing. If necessary, keep a log of time for a couple of days, or more if the work is varied. Look at all the details, whatever it is, not only the main tasks. Mark those that you think can be done by someone else, who you want to delete (but not necessarily know how at this stage), and those that must be done by you.

III. Who to delegate to

Identify the person most likely to do the tasks you want to delegate. Ask yourself if you are able to do the job, and if they have spare capacity, or if you can move some of their work for someone else. It may be a possibility to make a more general reorganization of a number of functions and to obtain further efficiencies. Delegation is not just a matter of telling someone else what to do. This is a case of allowing another person to develop and gain more freedom. The most experienced and trusted the other person is the greater freedom which can receive. Remember that your reputation or that of the business may depend on the activity is delegated. Talk to the person you want to delegate and see if they're happy with the concept.

IV. How to Delegate

Before each delegation proposed there are a number of additional points to consider. The task or activity must be clearly defined so that there will be confusion. Communication is very important. You must have a clear picture of the desired result, and it is necessary to explain the reasons for the delegation. You must explain to the other person what results are expected, and as such will be evaluated or measured. Discuss and agree any additional resources that may be necessary to complete the task or tasks. It must be clear to yourself what the deadlines are associated with the task or activity.
