The art of writing. Basic Techniques of Writing Articles
This knowledge came to me because I took a writing course in college, which has been one of the best decisions I've made in life. I succeeded not only writing academic papers for my classes in higher education, but the ability to express in writing helped me later in life. In fact, in my current job I have to prepare reports, memory aids, memoranda, letters to clients, etc.., and all apply writing techniques I learned. For this reason, I dedicate this article to my Spanish teacher Elena French and all those teachers who do their best to guide their students.
In this first installment we will address the topic in general. For this, we will review the stages of the writing process, ie before, during and after, that for purposes of our analysis we will call pre-writing, writing and editing itself.
1. Prewriting
I began to understand this first stage, which we have called pre-writing. This stage begins in the moment that we decided to put to paper the thoughts that haunt our minds. Needless to say, to complement this motivation or internal need, we need a good working environment to continue with a positive attitude. Personally, I like to go to the park which is near my home in which to observe the beauty of nature fills my being and I feel free to print pencil on paper. Find a comfortable place to help you with the inspiration required to carry out this activity.
Once you find the right place and have the right attitude, you need to set the topic about which to write. On the one hand, you can focus on one aspect that you are interested or know. It can be about knowledge acquired through experience, reflection of the thought or the result of discussions with others. Having a personal journal can be a valuable aid for this purpose. If, however, you will develop a topic that has little information Previous research is required to have basic ideas that will help you develop the content. For this, transcribe literally the most important passages of text, make notes of your impressions and ideas, and finally copy the data from the source of the information consulted then used to cite in your own text. A notebook would be a good ally if you are doing prior research. (We are preparing an article on the proper way to cite a source, which will publish a new release).
Selected as the subject matter and let's get into some useful techniques for prewriting. First of all, the fact remains that we will not focus on the content, which will make it later. What we want now is to know how we can gain valuable insights to develop a specific topic.
Technique 1. Brainstorming.
Is to write down ideas and details that comes to mind, then ask questions about the topic that we will try. These questions include: what, when?, Why?, How?, Where? and Who?.
Technique 2. Diagram of ideas.
Is to relate the ideas from the prior art, each other. For this, we use circles, lines, colors or simply write on a separate sheet of paper the groups of ideas that are related to each separately.
Technique 3. Free writing.
With the groups of ideas that have been obtained with previous techniques, the next step is to write paragraphs of about 5 lines with groups of ideas. It is important that you now feel free to write and do not stop until this activity.
Technique 4. Outline of the article.
This is without doubt the most important technique to write a good article. It is an excellent addition to other pre-writing techniques. It consists of outlining the main and secondary ideas to be developed later. What matters now is to establish the structure or "skeleton" of the article.
Then we will give an example of how to delineate an article for a particular topic. In this case, we choose the theme: how to reduce environmental pollution. In this way, the outline of this article would have the following scheme:
Thesis: Everyone can help to minimize environmental pollution.
Idea 1. We can recycling.
Afterthought 1.1. Recycling of plastics.
Afterthought 1.2. Recycling of paper.
Afterthought 1.3. Recycling of organic wastes.
Idea 2. Reuse things
Afterthought 2.1. Reusing clothes.
Afterthought 2.2. Retread tires.
Afterthought 2.3. Reuse plastic bags.
Idea 3. Save resources.
Afterthought 3.1. Ways to save water.
Afterthought 3.2. light-saving ideas.
Afterthought 3.3. How can you save fuel.
Conclusion: Through simple measures can reduce environmental pollution.
